St. Peter’s Church Gives to Community Help Network

What does it take to prepare breakfast for 200 people? The shopping list for St. Peter’s annual Volksfest burrito breakfast includes 30 dozen eggs, 200 tortillas, 10 pounds of shredded cheese, 3 watermelons, 20 pounds of sausage, 10 pounds of diced ham, 15 pounds of grapes and more. Member donations of Thrivent Dollars help pay for most of these items.

Many volunteers work ahead of time to fry sausage, cut onions and peppers, decorate tables, and create signs directing visitors to the church. More volunteers prepare and serve the breakfast held in the church basement that Saturday morning while the local quilt show is upstairs and the car show is outside.

The event is put together by the St. Peter’s Ladies’ Aid, taking in free-will donations and donating the proceeds to a non-profit organization. It continues to be a popular event, serving more people each year. 2026 Donations were down a little bit form previous years but with additional private donations and a contribution from the Ladies’ Aid, they presented a gift of $1,200.00 to the Community Help Network (CHN).

The CHN is a relatively new 501(c)(3) working to provide support to those in need in our area. Officially organized in 2024, the organization has used St. Peter’s Church basement to prepare Thanksgiving food baskets in the past. Approximately 100 baskets have gone out each year to elderly folks and those experiencing a hardship, crisis, or medical needs. Donations are used to provide rides to medical appointments, gas cards, groceries, and other things for those who need help. All donation are tax deductible as allowed by law.

To make a donation or request assistance, contact the CHN through founder and chairperson, Nancy Dahling at 715-216-6058 or nancydahling@gmail.com. For more information on St. Peter’s Church, contact Pastor Martin Weigand at 715-441-5086 or email gracelutheranchurchmn@gmail.com.
