The Goodhue Envirothon team is sending three teams to the state competition. The regional competition was held Wednesday, May 6th at the Byron Sportsmen and Conservation Club. Envirothon is an outdoor nature competition that tests students in current issues of the environment as well as in the areas of soils, waters, wildlife, and forestry.
The state competition will be Monday, May 18th at Oliver Kelley Farm near St. Cloud. The Goodhue senior girls were the region champs. This is their third career trip to the state competition and the second time winning the region.
Team members include Brynna Shaw, Kendra Rehder, Kylie Madelkow, Natalie Thomforde, and Macy Buck. The Goodhue sophomores were second place in the regional and include Toby Lodermier, Arlyn von Knobelsdorff, Tim Strauss, Brody Doerhoefer, and Gus Raasch.
The final team was made up of Goodhue 9th graders Amelia Lodermeier, Jackson Lodermeier, Aaron Betcher, Jeffrey Huntley, and Ben Gadient.
There were four other teams that participated from Goodhue. Goodhue 9th grade girls earned 5th and Goodhue senior boys earned 7th.
Goodhue Junior girls were 12th and Goodhue Junior boys were tied for 13th.
There were 16 HS teams and 16 MS teams that participated in this year's competition. The regional competition includes teams from Fillmore, Winona, Olmsted, Wabasha, Root River, Mower, Goodhue, Dodge, and Freeborn Counties. Goodhue Envirothon teams are coached by Matt Halverson (HS) and Robby Ebner (MS).
