Goodhue Education Foundation Spring Auction

Posted

For the first time, the Goodhue Education Foundation held their spring auction immediately following the school prom grand march. Set up in gym 3, silent auction items were available to view and bids opened at 5 PM Saturday May 2nd. Holding the activities back-to-back made it convenient to support students by attending both events. In addition to browsing the silent auction items, attendees could support the foundation by purchasing sandwiches, hotdogs, chips, cookies, or beverage concessions. The live auction began at 5:30 and ended before the silent auction items closed at 6:30.

The purpose of the non-profit foundation is to provide financial support and enrichment to students above and beyond what is supported by education dollars. Their vision is to continue to enhance the pride and community support for the Goodhue School from alumni, parents, community members, educators, and businesses. O’Reilly Organic Dairy, Kohlnhofer Farms and many other local businesses sponsored the spring auction, the group’s biggest fundraiser.

Gift cards and gift baskets were popular silent auction offerings along with handcrafted and promotional items. This year’s live auction featured large items including a wooden bench handcrafted by Mike Mann ($225), a log splitter donated by Lodermeier’s Inc ($300), and a mountain bike given by Trust Realty ($150). Experiences were highly sought after including a Mount Frontenac Golf Course package and a $3000.00 travel credit through Christina’s Travel Agency. Friendly, competitive bidding escalated from $90 for a cheesecake by Ann Buck, to $525 for three dozen cupcakes by Kelsey Strauss, to $600 for three dozen of Peg O’Connor’s monster cookies.

All proceeds from the event directly support the staff and students at Goodhue Public School. The foundation collaborates with the school board and staff to find the best ways to help promote excellence for all students involved in academics, arts, athletics, and other activities. They are pleased to have funded all grant requests received from the school and also make significant contributions to an endowment fund thanks to fundraising events like these.

THANK YOU to everyone that donated items to the auction, donated at the auction, and helped in any way to make the event a success.
